Decision Hub
Historic Building Renovation Decision-Making Hub
A comprehensive online hub will be developed by CALECHE for decision-making in historic building renovations. It will integrate a multi-benefit decision support system (DSS) to aid owners, engineers, and architects in selecting renovation scenarios for historic buildings. The IT-based DSS, which will be available in a Beta version on the renovation hub, will synthesize various CALECHE efforts, including gap analysis, best practice recommendations, decision trees, and digitalization strategies (AI and machine learning). The Decision Hub will also include decision trees for building components, stakeholder engagement processes, successful case studies and best practices, and a repository of traditional building techniques and materials for sustainable historic renovations.

Advanced Solutions for Historic Building Products and Techniques
CALECHE aims to develop a comprehensive set of solutions for European built heritage at the construction products and techniques scale. With a deliberate focus, CALECHE will improve the performance of 3 of the most promising technologies and techniques for the energy renovation of historic buildings, namely:
1) Interior bio-insulation with high hygrometric performance, crucial for historic buildings to increase usability and emphasize circularity and low embodied carbon;
2) A methodology for conserving and repairing windows, balancing heritage value conservation with energy performance using techniques distinct from those in new buildings;
3) BIPV as a leading example of the link between technical innovation and renovation, increasing public acceptance of introducing innovation into heritage buildings.
CALECHE emphasizes a multi-benefit assessment for all solutions across the building’s lifecycle to ensure sustainable interventions.
